The Sheerwater battle goes on….

SHEERWATER & MAYBURY

WOKING BOROUGH COUNCIL

(Please note that I will be updating this page as and when I can).

Alongside the General Election last week, Woking also had a local election.  One resident from Sheerwater (and directly affected by the proposed regeneration) decided to stand for councillor.  Sadly he didn’t win, but thankfully a Labour candidate secured a seat which is a rarity among a predominantly Conservative area.  It was so frustrating to learn that only just over half of residents in Sheerwater and Maybury bothered to vote.  It’s an appalling let down because a lot of those who just didn’t bother will be wishing they had in due course and could have made a huge difference.

So, the fight continues and I felt compelled to finally sit and go through all the information I had been researching on the rather dubious practices of Woking Borough Council.  To most people, this isn’t very interesting, but I hope those who are on the front line in Sheerwater and Maybury manage to use a snippet or two to maybe fill in a gap or that it goes some way to reducing their own laborious search in an attempt to save their homes to have all this information in one place  If you want further information (and if I’ve got it) or have any questions, please ask.

HOUSING STOCK

WOKING BOROUGH COUNCIL outsourced it’s housing management in January 2012 to a joint venture between PINNACLE PSG and MANSELL.  The contract “also involved up to 48 staff being transferred from WBC with their existing employment conditions being guaranteed”.  The name given to this joint venture (of which both companies are joint shareholders) is WOKING HOUSING PARTNERSHIP LTD despite having NEW VISION HOMES as their store front.  (New Vision Homes does not exist on the Companies List and is the ‘trading name’ for WHP).  Mansell is listed as being a dissolved company in 2014.  The council was asked about this and state that Balfour Beatty were simply streamlining their subsidiaries and it now comes under the Balfour Beatty hat.

WOKING BOROUGH COUNCIL COMPANIES

Once I started searching, it became apparent that Woking Council (WBC) had it’s fingers in a lot of pies.  In an era when public services are urged to be transparent and WBC promising this:

http://www.getsurrey.co.uk/news/local-news/council-promises-more-thameswey-transparency-4814608

these incestuous companies are anything but.  It’s like opening a hornets nest.  I’ve listed below the companies connected to WBC with their Shareholders Equity figure. There may be more, but they’ve made it difficult to search them out.  It’s also important to note that THAMESWEY WILL OWN HOMES AFTER THE REGENERATION – THERE WILL BE NO COUNCIL HOMES.

FINALLY, LET’S TALK ABOUT CLLR JOHN KINGSBURY…

Cllr John Kingsbury is not only a Director/Secretary to 16 of WBC’s companies but also just happens to be listed as a Director for a company listed as ‘TORYLAND LTD’ (better known to you and I as the local Conservative HQ)!

Cllr Kingsbury isn’t known for transparency after he was caught out not declaring a joint property company interest with his wife, COUNTY COUNCILLOR Kemeny.

http://www.getsurrey.co.uk/news/local-news/woking-councillor-couples-apology-failing-6681561

It’s funny how the council and it’s companies are predominantly Conservative. There appears to be an unhealthy leaning towards one party when it comes to deciding who is a director or portfolio holder.  This surely cannot be the most fairest system nor in the best interests of residents?
