  1. Very interesting stuff. I worked on one of Paul Raymond’s magazines in the 1980s and wrote a book about it. I’m writing some other stuff about that period. Might be interesting to exchange views. best wishes

      1. The meat rack what what the railings at Piccadilly were called by everyone at the time – the guys hanging about there plying their trade were not children – although age of consent is 16 and was then for heterosexuals, for homosexuals it was 21. Then dropped to 18. Under that age was referred to in law as minors aka children. I knew some of those too!Convictions via West End Central were always questionable by the way. Challoner was the tip of the iceberg!

      2. Yes, I’m familiar with the meat rack and sadly some of the boys hanging around there were children – very vulnerable children. There was a never ending supply of depraved pimps ready to take over the running of it when the last lot had their collars felt.

Interesting comment regarding Challoner. The policing element is something I aim to research and blog in due course.

  3. Ever hear of a Maltese guy called Joey (Joseph) Barbara? He was probably involved in the prostitution rackets. I know he was a good looking man and was i think used to draw hapless girls into the vice game. He was connected to a woman called Glenda May Smith (AKA Glenda Mitchell) who maybe was a prostitute, and he her pimp. I think he was arrested at least once in the 60’s. He also, apparently was deaf or very poor of hearing.

  4. I’ve always felt that Sidney Cooke should have been questioned about all the missing boys, so many long term mispers. I also heard a rumour from a good source that the Krays (who were both gay not just Ron) ‘ordered’ a boy, and after he was used and killed his body was buried in Norfolk. So… police don’t investigate because they’re lazy and corrupt.
